Why am I running for office?

I served my country as a service member both on the enlisted and officer side as a United States Marine for 22 years.

I have spent eight years teaching, mentoring, and developing our future leaders in the classroom as Marine and Navy JROTC instructor. Now, I want to give back to my community and use my knowledge, experience, and wisdom as leader to serve the people in Virginia where I have lived since 2009.

As a Marine our motto is mission first, then troop welfare.  There was no bickering about political parties, television networks or any divisive issues. We focused on getting the job done and care of our fellow service members to our left and right.

As a Virginia State Senator I will be focused on the things that will improve Virginia and assist the residents of district 27.  Virginia needs someone that will look past arguments and faceoffs that waste our valuable resource of time.

Virginia needs someone who consistently work with decision makers, organizations , communities, and citizens to improve our communities, schools, and lives.  We have no time for petty politics, if we are focused on our people and our Commonwealth.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland.  I grew up with very strong work ethics, independence, and community. Attended all public schools. Attended a historic and competitive Baltimore high school that accepted selected freshman applicants each year. Attended Towson State University for one semester and transferred to a Community College due to financial constraints.

I joined the military in order to become more independent. I enlisted in 1993. In 1995 I applied for an enlisted to officer program called B.O.O.S.T, Broadened Opportunities for Officer Selection and Training.

In 2000, I graduated from the Norfolk State University and was 2nd Lt in the United States Marine Corps. I served as a Supply Officer with a Infantry Battalion and deployed twice with them. I also served as Supply officer and company commander with a Assault Amphibian Vehicle school battalion.

Towards the end of my career I worked at headquarters Marine Corps as a project officer working on future projects for sea basing assets. I worked as Staff Secretary for General Officer staff coordinating daily operations between all Marine Corps occupational schools and their higher headquarters.

After retiring from the Marine I made good on a promise to my dad to return and give back to my home city of Baltimore before he passed away from cancer . I returned back to Baltimore for 3 years and worked as a public school teacher as a Marine Corps JROTC Instructor. 2015-2017.

I transferred to the DC public school system as teacher and Navy JROTC instructor. In that billet, I mentored students that enable the school to have the first student ever in the school history to get accepted and attend the Naval Academy. Since then, my leadership has led to 5 students in the last 2 years receive scholarships totaling almost $800,000.

During the summertime I have worked  with large corporations such has INTEL and local businesses such Cyber Bytes Foundation in Stafford to send high school students from district 27 and the DMV to week long STEM summer camps. These camps include building your PC, build your own 3D printer, and artificial intelligence.

I love Virginia. I want to see our families thrive here for generations to come. With that goal in mind, we can work together to build the world our children deserve.
